Terms & Conditions
Payment for Research:
Once a research package has been agreed upon between AJ Thomson and the client, the client will receive a password to enter the Payment Area. Starting fee payment for all Research Packages must be paid before research can commence. Surname Tree Charts require full payment of the total cost before research can begin. The remainder of the payment must be paid after the work has been completed and the client has been notified of said completion. The completed work will then be sent to the client by whatever means was agreed upon in the first instance. All payments go through PayPal. See their legal agreements here. AJ Thomson does not see credit/debit card information.
Any additional work agreed between AJ Thomson and the client, after the initial starting fee, will be charged at an hourly rate. Travel out with the Scottish Borders is not included in the hourly rate and will be an additional cost to the overall price. Overseas clients will have the option of either receiving the completed work electronically by e-mail or paying an additional sum for international postage. This will be agreed upon between the client and AJ Thomson before any work is carried out.
The client has the option of agreeing a 'maximum spend' with AJ Thomson before work commences. An invoice will be produced after the additional work has been completed which the client is expected to pay in full by the usual PayPal method before receiving the results of the additional work.
Prices reflect the research process i.e. the time spent on the work - not the findings of the research.
As every piece of research is different, AJ Thomson cannot guarantee that the research will produce a positive outcome.
All prices are non-negotiable.
Timescales will vary depending on workload. The client should expect to wait at least a minimum of 20 working days before completion. If completion is going to be significantly longer, the client will be notified of this before any agreement is made.
The client has 14 days from entering into a contract with AJ Thomson in which they can cancel it. The client can inform AJ Thomson by e-mail. Work will not begin until this time period has lapsed unless expressively stated by the client that work can be carried out before the 14 days has lapsed. In such instances, if the client then wishes to cancel, they will still be charged the costs incurred to AJ Thomson up to the point of cancellation.
Refunds are unavailable. However, if there has been an error made by AJ Thomson, for example a grammatical error within a report, AJ Thomson will correct the error free of charge. AJ Thomson is not responsible for any damage caused through postage.
An AJ Thomson voucher is valid for 1 year after payment has been made. The receiver of the voucher can contact AJ Thomson by e-mail or via Social Media to discuss options available to them.
